Entertainment Book/ OurTown & All Around Book

Parma Lodge is selling the above 2012 books. Both offer great discounts for dining, sports, travel, entertainment, etc. The price is the same as last year. The Entertainment Book is $30.00 and the price of Our Town and All Around Book is $28.00. Savings may be realized in as little as one or two uses of the books.

If ordering either or both books, please telephone me at 216-749-4841, email at jcm@n2net.net or see me at the Lodge. Then, please leave a check made out to the Parma Elks Lodge #1938 in the black payment box. I will bring the books to the Lodge or deliver them to your home. If you have any questions or want to review either book, please contact me. Your support of this fundraiser is greatly appreciated.

THANK YOU!

A big thank you to the “Tuesday drawing folks.” Recently, the Veterans Committee received a report of two Veterans who literally did not have underwear. An announcement was made at the Tuesday drawing and, through your generosity, we were able to deliver much needed new items to these Vets who are down on their luck— thank you!!!!!!!!!

2011 Bowling Season

The next bowling season will be starting in September. We would like to make this one the best yet and are encouraging more members to join (including you newbies who we don't see that often).

The first half will be 10 weeks (9/12-11/13), and the second half will be 12 weeks (1/16/12-4/9/12). The weekly cost will be $4.00 and includes a day trip to Rivers Casino, tentatively planned for 4/29/12.

For those not wanting to go on the casino trip, the trip portion of the money will be included with your prize money. There will be a sign up sheet on the side of the bowling machine.

No worries if you don't have a team, we can pair you up. We would also like to promote more member interaction and would like to have a potluck sometime during the holiday break.

Please contact Kathee O’Brien (216-702-6682) or Kim Smith (216-926-7660) with any questions or suggestions. Please consider joining, it's a great way to meet new people, get a little exercise and beat the winter blahs.

Think Summer
To Help Military…

Please support our troops and veterans by refraining from removing items placed in the lodge foyer—thank you!

Most of you will be traveling during the summer months, and you may be stopping at motels and hotels overnight. Please consider bringing all of the freebees that are offered (the soap, shampoo, lotions, etc.) to the Lodge.

The large box in the Lobby is used to collect items for the men and women fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq. All contributions that you can add to the box will be appreciated.

Last month, we had been given money to purchase items for our donation box. We provided the recipient a receipt for the items that were bought.

Please help us remember our military. click here for A list of items needed . Thank You from me and the men and women who are risking their lives for us.

ELK FUNERAL SERVICE

An Elk service is held at the request of the family of the departed. Elk members should discuss this with those who will be responsible for carrying out the members wishes upon their death. Put it in writing and make it part of their final papers. Also include the phone number of the lodge to make it easier to contact the lodge secretary and Exalted Ruler. Most funeral directors will assist in making proper contact with the lodge.

AMERICANISM

On September 11th, I encourage everyone to place an American flag outside every home, apartment, office, and store in the United States. On this tenth anniversary of our country's worst tragedy, every individual should make it their duty to display an American flag. We do this in honor of those who lost their lives on 9/11 and their family, friends, and loved ones who continue to endure the pain. In addition, we do this to honor those who are fighting at home and abroad to preserve our cherished freedoms. In the days, weeks, and months following September 11, 2001, our country was bathed in American flags. Our citizens mourned the incredible losses and stood shoulder-to-shoulder against terrorism. Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times. I do not believe it should take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity once again. Our American flag is the fabric of our country. Together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds.
